My first attempts at linocutting as part of Black Light Art Collective
I’d never dared to think of myself as any kind of artist, other than dabbling for fun at home, until encouraged by my (far more talented) BLAC partner in crime, who fancied a go at linocutting earlier this year. I decided to join him, encouraged by his belief in me and excited about trying a new medium; knowing absolutely zero about how to start other than reading warnings against stabbing yourself with the ultra sharp tools (I sustained a couple of minor injuries under the thumbnail, but other than making playing the guitar uncomfortable for a while, nothing major!).
I don’t think much of my drawing skills, so have been developing my own style and subject matter, using photographs or images, stylising them in a way I like before (or even whilst) then tracing them, transferring onto the lino and then carving the image out. The most difficult part is to…
